Why Do We Pray?

Q: My child got an assingnment on "why do we pray?"  I need your help to clarify this question, as i dont want to give wrong information to my child. Kindly give your kind suggestion on this.

Reply: We have children too and when our children ask us why they pray, we explain "Satnaam" to them. “What is Satnam?” they ask, we reply that, “Satnaam is the name of God.”  

Within the Guru Granth Sahib it explains to us, that  His name is Truth and we should live a life of truthful living. We not only do our simran but we should also live a truthful life, followed by good deeds and being honest.

We have explained to our children that if we pray and then lie and be mean to others our prayers are worthless.

We pray so that we can start becoming truthful on the inside out, do good deeds and love others. This is why praying is important.
