How To Balance Family And Bhagti

Q: Due to my marriage I feel that I reduced my devotion because my rememberance of God has decreased.  So please tell me the way by which I balance both sides & reach my aim in this chance of life?

Reply: Guru Nanak himself is a Guru which represents love and truth. He is the very pinnacle of truthful living. In marriage we are reminded that it is important to serve. You can still love and honour your Guru in every way and be married. We are married and have children yet this has not stopped us from doing bhagti, we have devoted ourselves to bhagti and serving others. You must remember that your wife is not yours, she never was and never will be.

Don't be attached to her (as hard as that might be) you have to remember that she is here to complete her own karma and clean up her own misdeeds. This dosen't mean you shouldn't love her and start ignoring her to do your naam simran. Love her, accept her for what she is, remember the soul purpose of being with a jeevan sathi is for both of you to do bhagti together, serve and live in Truth together.

Why don't you both do naam simran together, if she chooses not to, then accept her wishes and you should still continue to do earn your bhatgti, Truth will take effect on her very soon.

You my friend, are here to clean up your own misdeeds and start your own bhagti. The Gurus were married and yet they still attained enlightenment and Divine Truth.

It's all about whether or not you really want to do naam simran and bhagti, if you really want to be closer to Guru Nanak's ideals and philosophy then you can. You shouldn't let these small hurdles be a obstacle for you. Marriage is not the obstacle, one's own ego's and desires are.

Good Luck and we pray that you are blessed  with the blessings of the true Satguru, with naam, bhagti and seva.

Sada Satnam
