Pritam Anand Ji - Baba Ji's Sangat
Introduction:
Dass (this servant, Pritam Anand) is referring to Dhan Dhan Shoti Mata Ji as Mandeep Ji below. She was married to Dass. We don’t want to use her wordly name as it belongs to the past, but to make it easier to understand the story below that was her name when we our life started in Canada. So we ask Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and Dhan Dhan Mata ji please forgive this fool for this mistake.. We want to say this because we are telling our life story of how everything took place with Satnaam Ji’s grace. Dass’s request to each and everyone is to please put your foot in our shoe and then read the article below. Then you can what Bhagti really is. Even though this looks easy, it is not easy at all. Bhagti is done only with the divine blessings, SatGuru’s kirpa (grace) and Nadar (favourable glance of grace upon us).
NADAR KARAY TA SIMRIYA JA
KIRPA KARAY TA APNEE BHAGTI LAYAY.
He showers His favourable glance upon us,
only then can we remember him (simran).
He showers His grace upon us,
only then can we do his devotional worship (bhagti)
1989 Migrated To Canada:
Migrated to Canada on Spousal Basis on 16 July, 1989. Got married to Mandeep ji. Mandeep ji’s parents were religious people. Mandeep ji’s dad was Dhan Dhan Kirtania (singer) with Akhand Kirtani Jatha (religious group). Her mother is such a nice soul and Mandeep ji has two biological brothers. When Dass came to Canada, went to Montreal for our marriage celebration. Due to Mandeep ji’s dad being hugely respected in the Gurdwara, there were many, many famous religious Sikh people attending. We got married on July 22, 1989. Here Dass wants to mention that Dass’s younger sister also got married with Mandeep ji youngest brother, same time same day with their marriage in the same Gurdwara. This was also an arranged marriage by our parents.
After marriage, a few days were spent in Montreal. Then we went to Michigan, USA and lived with Mandeep ji’s elder brother for a month. He showed us some computer basics. After that Mandeep ji and Dass went to Windsor, Canada, in order to find a job. But we did not get even a cleaning job. So we moved to Brampton, Canada and lived with a relative of ours. When we lived with them they asked for some money for food and things.
Then Dass got a job in Injection Molding and Mandeep ji got a job in a Hotel doing laundry. We then moved to Malton (Missisauga) because Mandeep ji got job in Doctor’s office. Dass had job in Injection Moulding as a Machine Operator. Working in Injection Moulding the company promoted Dass to Assistant Foreman then Shift Foreman(Supervisor). Mandeep ji’d brother also got a job in Missisauga and then the family decided to rent a house and we all lived together.
Mandeep ji and Dass had first baby girl then Mandeep ji and Dass distributed sweets to everyone. It was a happy life in Maya. Mandeep ji worked 6 days in an office and Dass worked 7 days, 14 hours-a-day in the factory. So Mandeep ji’s parent said send our little one (daughter) to them in the USA and they will take care of her. Mandeep ji’s elder brother had also had a son around the same time. But, Dass was not ready to send our little one with anyone. We put our little one in Daycare, but little one stopped eating and got sick. Then Mandeep ji’s parents put pressure on us that they will take her there. The family won and our little one went to USA to be raised. We went from Mississauga to Michigan to see our little whenever we got a chance.
Mandeep ji’s brother and sister-in-law took care of our little one as their own baby. Dass always have respect for their love and bow to them for that. Mandeep ji’s younger brother went to study so we moved out and rented a condo. Then we bought our first condo - 2 bedrooms and den.
By that time our little one was 3 years old. We brought here back with us and Mandeep ji’s mother came as well to help us.
1993 Jadu-Toona (Black Magic) started:
During this time our Aunt was doing Jadu Toona (black magic) upon us. Dass was never effected by any Jadu Toona, but Mandeep ji sometimes saw snakes and sometimes was just affraid and would jump out of bed. But, Mandeep ji’s routine was to do Simran and Paath (ritual reading) everyday. But, even doing Paath and Simran didn’t stop those energies. Dass wants to mention here that Mandeep ji’s parents were AmritDhari and did Paath day and night for her protection, but Mandeep ji was still suffering. This is because “DUKH SUKH APNA APNA” – everyone’s suffering and pleasure is unique.
One day Mandeep ji’s elder brother visited us from USA and took Mandeep ji to someone’s house. That religious fellow was from Akhand Kirtani Jatha and he told them a few psychic things because he had had a vision or something. That fellow said Mandeep ji can’t wear her black dresses. These dresses were Mandeep ji’s favorite colour. He said that she can’t keep any artificial flowers at home either.
Mandeep ji’s brother came home and took all Mandeep ji’s dresses and flowers and threw them away. Dass was thinking what a great and foolish superstitious belief (bharam) this fellow has put inside them. What is wrong with black when all colours are made by God? But, Dass did not say anything because Mandeep ji was the only daughter in family and they were very protective of her. So whatever the family decided we just had to follow. But, today Dass can say that life was just imprisonment due to family attachments (moh maya).
That religious fellow invited us to come and do “Waheguru Waheguru”. Dass took the whole family one day to his house and they were doing chanting of “Waheguru Waheguru.” There was a dark room and we sat there whilst people were doing chanting with in and out breaths as they had been taught by Akhand Kirtani Jatha. But, Dass felt that was mechanical chanting so we stayed quiet. Afterwards that fellow said to join them on a regular basis at Dixie Gurdwara on the day they did their chanting. We did go but always stayed back and quiet.
1994-95
We lived closed to Malton Gurdwara and whenever we got time, Mandeep ji always wanted to go to there. Dass took Mandeep ji and her mom in the car and dropped them off. They went inside but Dass just bowed to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji from the hallway and just stood outside. We did not go inside the big hall because of what had happened in India in our childhood. ( Dass found what is the purpose of doing Gurdwara sewa when people are coming to Gurdwara and doing it for show. Dass told dad, dad said, “better don’t go there you can do sewa at home many guest come here all day, many hungry, needy people come all day. You can serve them when you have time at home.” So Dass stopped going to Gurdwara in India.)
We kept driving the car and dropping them off at the Gurdwara everyday. One day Dhan Dhan Baba Maan Singh ji Phevawalay came to Malton Gurdwara. Dass was listening to them in the Hall outside. When they started their kirtan, Dass felt something and Dass went inside and sat close to the back wall, very far from the stage because we were thinking we don’t have to become part of any religious organization.
The next day Dass was excited to go into the Gurdwara to listen to the Kirtan and Katha from Dhan Dhan Baba Maan Singh ji. Dass said to Mandeep ji and Mandeep ji’s mom, “hurry up, we don’t want ot miss that.” So we went there and bowed to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and bowed to Baba Maan Singh ji. We wanted to touch their feet, but this is against the Sikh Maryada (rules) we have today as they say “KISAY DAY AGAY JHUKNA NAHI” (don’t bow inrofnt of anyone). So Dass collected Charn Dhoor (foot dust) with our Surat (in our mind) and sat behind everyone close to the back wall. Then Dhan Dhan Baba Maan Singh ji started Katha, saying “DRUNKS DRINK AND THEN VOMIT. PIGS THEN CLEAN THAT VOMIT. SO A PIG IS GREATER THAN A DRUNK WHO IS MAKING A MESS!“ When Dass heard that thing, we stand up and went to the front where Dhan Dhan Baba Maan Singh ji was and we started listening. We got into bairaag (feeling pain of separation from God) and we continued to go there and listened to all of his Katha and Kirtan.
1995
After we got a baby boy, Mandeep ji said we have to give thanks to God for this gift so we have to do Langar (serve food) at the Gurdwara. We went to the Gurdwara and we were talking to someone in the Management. Mandeep ji said we want to book a programme for Sunday. That fellow said, “on Sundays there is too much Sangat. You can do seva on Thursday.” But, Mandeep ji said, “no, we want to do Sunday and we want Matar Paneer (peas and cheese curry) and good dishes in Langar for the Sangat (congregation) and we want a lot of sangat to come.” So he agreed. Then he mentioned there will be 6 Kirtan Jathas (religious singing groups) on that day, so we will have to pay them 61 dollars each as well. We said that money is not issue as we want sangat’s blessings so everything was arranged and Sunday came. There was much sangat and groups. The famouse Bhai Balwinder Singh ji Rangila was the main one. Then some Katha Vachak (discourser) went on the stage for just 2 minutes and someone from the Management came to us and said we have to give him 61 dollars too. So we did. Then at the end of the programme there was Ardas (group standing prayer). In Ardas they said our son’s name and put someone else’s son’s name too at the end. We did not like to get credit for the seva, as it becomes for show to impress others. So we said to the Management, “what is this mentioning names? We don’t need any glory. It is just thanks to Akal Purakh ji.” But, they then asked us for money for the langar. Then Dass thought thisis how these Gurdwaras make money. They just say one other person’s name in the Ardas and collect money from the other party too. Then Dass asked another party they said we had also programme today and we gave money for Langar too. Then Dass just thought that moment:
JO BIJAY SO KHAYAY.
What we sow we reap.
THAT DAY DASS DECIDED NO MORE CELEBRATIONS IN GURDWARA AS IT IS BETTER TO GIVE TO BEGGARS AND NEEDY. AT LEAST THEY WILL BLESS YOU. WE JUST MENTIONED THIS THING BECAUSE WHAT IS TRUTH.
All is Dhan Dhan – Blessed Blessed.
Work:
Dass worked in the company 14 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week. Whenever work slowed down, Dass went to deliver flyers (advertisement papers) with friends and get some money. So that time was work, work, work. Sometimes in order to sleep we had to take sleeping pills.
1995
Whislt working at the Injection Moulding company as a supervisor, we were living in Mississauga (Malton). Dass then lost my job due to company bankruptcy. Dass did not have a job so Dass worked in one restaurant infront of the stove. The owner was happy with Dass. He gave me more money than he promised, but within two to three weeks, Dass got another job in a wall-covering company. My friend was working there and he showed Dass how to apply. It was a big company and good pay. Dass and Mandeep ji had second baby boy. Dass worked there for 5 years then the company moved to the USA. Whilst working in that company Dass got hurt and got left knee surgery 3 times. The Doctor pulled out a ligament from the knee. During the time we worked in this company, we sold our condo and we had only a little money. Then Dass’s friend gave us some money without any interest, just to help us out to buy a house in Brampton. It was a four bedroom house with a basement which we rented out.
Lifestyle:
Life was OK in Maya. It was moving along like everyone else in Maya - friends, parties and going to Gurdwara to bow, eat langar and come home without any sewa.
1997 Health Problems:
Dass got knee surgeries. Mandeep Ji’s own health was down. She couldn’t sleep all night due to fear. She would see snakes and sometimes jump from the bed so hard that she broke the blinds. Sometimes she saw just a hand was coming towards her. Mandeep ji could see it but Dass snored loudly – so had no problem! Mandeep ji’s health was going, down, down. And Mandeep ji’s parents were worried about their daughter. Parents who did Paath and Kirtan their whole life but still worried about their daughter. They were ready to take Mandeep ji to India, because Mandeep ji’s uncle said in India there is someone who can make her better. So they asked me. Dass said, “she is your daughter. You guys can take where you want. Dass don’t want any blame from you guys later.” So Mandeep ji was getting sick more and more. She just couldn’t sleep the whole night because of those miserable dreams.
1998 Mom came to Canada:
Dass and Mandeep ji sponsored Dass’s biological parents from India. Only Mom came to Canada as Dad failed his immigration due to health problems. So after Dad’s death mom came to Canada to live with us and help us to take care of the kids. Dass wants to mention that the relationship between our Mom and Mandeep ji was even better than a Mom and Daughter relation. Both loved each other. Dass bowed to Mom and Mandeep ji for that great relationship and care.
Brought Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji home:
Mandeep ji wanted to bring Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji home. When Mandeep ji and Mom asked us can we do it? Dass said, “if you guys want to do sewa then bring otherwise don’t bring.” Because Dass was working all the time so would not be able to do the required seva. Dass had seen in India my own parents had Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji for over 45 years, but when Dad got sick then our parents send Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji back to the Gurdwara.
Dass wanted to mention that even living in a joint family only our Mom and Dad were doing the Sewa morning and evening, no one else. That’s why we said to Mandeep ji it is okay to bring but Dass is not taking any responsibility for this, but Mandeep ji said she will do.
We got Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji from Dixie Gurdwara and made one room for Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji that we were calling Baba Ji’s room. We got big size Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji. But, that was heavy for Mandeep ji because she couldn’t put it on her head because of her health when she was doing the morning and evening time duties. Then we switched for a small one. Mandeep ji and Mom they were doing that Sewa when the kids went to school. Mom she was doing Paath all day long. Then Mandeep and Mom they started a “Khulla Paath - open reading”. They would finish a whole reading in a month. Both of them they were doing Paath day and night. But Dass would
just go into that room and bow to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji and go to work. Come back and bow then stay with family.
Mandeep ji’s health getting worse:
Mandeep ji’s neck was now stiff all the time. She could not lift anything at home. Dass’s biological mother was taking care of the kids and housework. Dass tried to help as well. But the sickness was not getting better. Financially we were going down again. Mandeep ji was so tired from bad dreams and now she could also see some spirit in the room. In her dreams she was saying “Snake! Snake!” Sometimes Dass just stopped her jumping in fear out of the bed. Some nights we slept infront of Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji in Baba ji’s room because of Mandeep ji’s fear but in that room same fearful dreams occurred. The very room where everyday paath was being read. Then Dass realised that just by sleeping in the same room as Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji you still are not protected, no matter how much Paath has been read there. Dass then understood that Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji is the Gyan Guru – it is our Divine Teacher (Guru) as it gives us the Divine Wisdom (Gyan) but cannot protect us in itself.
Wanted to sell the house and How Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji sent his Beloved ones to us:
We decided to sell the house and to live on rent so at least we could survive for a while with the money from the house sale. Dass’s friend’s brother said, “Amrik ji, don’t sell house. You have a nice house.” But, Dass told him the situation and he said, “let me ask around for a buyer and you can save some commission fees for a private sale.” The next day he called back and said that two sisters wanted to see the house in the evening. They came and Dass invited them to sit in the family room and offered them some juice and made tea for both of them. Sister said to us , “you are doing too much for us,” we replied, “you are our guests and guests we think of as being the same as God.” Dass was showing them around the house when they came to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji’s room. Both sisters just sat in that room and we also sat with them. Both sisters asked us, “why are you guys selling this nice house?” We told them the situation. They said, “don’t sell the house as everything will be okay.” Then one sister said, “in Dixie Gurdwara there is one Bhai Sahib (Dhan Dhan Baba Ji) who has so much much Kirpa. Just go and see him and everything will be okay just believe in us.” Then Dass asked those sisters, “how will we recognize Bhai Sahib ji?” They told us, “Bhai Sahib ji always comes early in the morning and after doing Sewa, he sits infront of Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Sometimes his hands go up and sometimes you will hear big laughs.” So they gave us a few hints about Bhai Sahib ji. When you are going through all the troubles, you will try anything and everything someone says. When both sisters were leaving they said, “we never met anyone like you guys.” Dass said, “we just need your blessings ji. Thanks for coming in.“
Ready to See Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and conversation with Baba Ji:
Next morning, we woke up early and took a shower. Dass and Mandeep ji went to Dixie Gurdwara. Mandeep ji and Dass bowed to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Mandeep ji sat on the left side where the ladies sit and Dass sat on the right side with back against the wall. Because of our knee surgeries we couldn’t cross our knees, so Dass just put our legs out straight and sat against the wall. In the Gurdwara programme the Giani (priest) was reading the Punj Bani Da Paath (five morning prayers). We were listening, but our intention was just to meet Bhai Sahib ji (Dhan Dhan Baba ji). We did not have any picture of Dhan Dhan Baba ji, so were still wondering how we would recognize him.
Finally, Baba ji came in the Hall. Dass was watching and Mandeep ji said, “maybe this is Baba ji?” Dass was watching then Baba Ji did Dandout (lying flat prostration) to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji. And then Dhan Dhan Baba ji went from the left side to do Parkarima (circumambulation). Then halfway around, Baba Ji did Chour (wisk-seva) to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji. Then Dass saw for the first time Baba Ji’s big, big smiley face whilst he was doing Chour seva and facing the sangat. His face was blooming red-pinkish. Dass had never seen a face like that in my whole life. (Roohani chera – divine face).
Dass’s eyes kept watching Dhan Dhan Baba ji as he finished his Parkarima then he sat infront of Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji. We were so excited to talk to him about Mandeep ji. When Dhan Dhan Baba Ji stood up, Dass and
Mandeep ji followed Dhan Dhan Baba Ji as he went downstairs to the Langar Hall. He sat on the floor mat close to the kitchen with his back towards the kitchen. Dass said, “Sat Sri Akal” to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and Baba Ji said, “sit with us.” We sat on Dhan Dhan Baba Ji’s left side and then Mandeep ji sat with us. Dhan Dhan Baba Ji said, “Sabh kuch Dhan Dhan hai” (All is blessed blessed.)
Dass said to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji, “Bhai Sahib ji, this is our situation right now. Dass wants Mandeep ji’s good health.”
Dhan Dhan Baba Ji replied, “SABH KUCH SHONA (everything will be okay), just do sewa.”) Dass replied, “ at home Mandeep ji can’t even lift up a sinle plate, how she can do sewa?” Dhan Dhan Baba Ji said, “just start doing sewa,
everything will be okay.”
Dhan Dhan Baba Ji did not even ask our name or anything We spent a few moments with Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and we went home. At home we told our Mom that we met Bhai Sahib ji at the Gurdwara and what Bhai Sahib said we told mom. Mom said we want Mandeep ji’s good health nothing else.
1999 After we met Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji, we also went to see another fellow (Baba) in the Springdale Area:
During that time someone said to us that there is another Baba visiting someone’s house in the Springdale area, and we had better see him. In Maya, everyone wants a quick recovery. Someone told Mandeep ji about this other Baba and she told me. So Dass said to her, “it is upto you.” So we went there and we met that Baba too. Dass is only telling this story because that other Baba was not Dhan Dhan. Now Dass wants to mention a little story about that. When we met that fellow they put Guru Granth Sahib ji in one room and another room he used to talk with his customers.
So first we entered and bowed to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji and sat there for few moments and waited for our turn to go to see him. During that time we were doing “Waheguru Waheguru Satnaam Waheguru” as taught to us by our parents and our society because we were born into Dikhism. When it was our turn, someone cam and said, “go into the next room so you can meet Baba Ji.” We went into that room and that Baba said, “close that door.” When we told that Baba our situation, that Baba said he will do Paath for us and we will have to pay him $1100. We said, “Okay, we will let you know.”
When we came home Mandeep ji called her parents in the US and told them about the Baba charging $1100. Mandeep ji’s brother, mom and came on that weekend. We went there again. When that Baba saw Mandeep ji’s father, he was quiet for a while. Then he told them something too and Mandeep ji’s brother too. So for a fast recovery in their family, they booked an Akhand Paath (48hr ritual reading of guru Granth Sahib) right away for completion next Sunday. They came back from the USA the following week on the completion day and paid $1100 for their family’s fast track recovery. That Baba then asked us when he could book our Paath. Dass mentioned we don’t have money yet. But when we did we would decide and book the Paath. Then that Baba said, “you can pay later or even in installments.” Dass was thinking what a great business! And how people rob those in pain and take advantage of them when they are in trouble. After Mandeep ji’s brother Paath for the family, we said we will do a Paath later. However, that night Mandeep ji still couldn’t sleep due to fear and Mandeep ji saw bad spirits again. So what use was the Paath?
Dass learnt that if we pay someone to recite Paath for us and all we do is turn up for the completion ceremony (Bhog), serve some langar and pay money and get Hukamnama (reading) there, can we get better? NO WAY. Because only if we work will we get the pay cheque. How can someone elso do the work and yet we get paid? If someone else is reading GurBani for us, how can we get the reward for that? Sorry to say but Dass wants to mention here that it is better that we do what GurBani says by first understanding it and secodnly bringing it into our actions day and night.
Called Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and Talked on the Phone:
Next morning, we got the number for Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and called him. Satguru Baba Ji did kirpa upon us and said, “don’t pay any money or buy Paath from anyone at all.”
Dass said, “Baba Ji we want Mandeep ji’s good health nothing else ji.”
Baba Ji said, “Just do sewa at the Gurdwara and do Joriya-di-sewa (show wiping seva) and everything will be fine.”
That night there was no fear, no bad dream to Mandeep ji and she slept very well. With SatGuru Baba Ji’s Kirpa, it was an amazing night of peace for her.
DASS WANTS TO MENTION HERE THAT
“DUKH DAROO, SUKH ROG”
– SUFFERING IS THE REMEMDY
WHERE PLEASURE BECAME THE DISEASE.
IF WE DIDN’T HAVE ANY DUKH THEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE SEARCHED FOR THE REMEDY FOR THAT DUKH.
IF WE DON’T SEARCH FOR THE REMEDY THEN TILL TODAY WE WERE STILL SEARCHING FOR GOD.
OUR DUKH CAME TO TEACH US :
WHAT IS SATNAAM?
WHO IS BRAHAMGYANI (KNOWER OF GOD)?
AND WHO IS SAT PARBRAHAM JI KA BETA (SON OF ETERNAL TRUTH FATHER)?
SO MANDEEP JI’S DUKH CAME TO TAKE US TOWARDS SAT PARBHAHAM PARMESAR JI’S CHARN-SHARN (FEET SANCTUARY).
WE USED TO CALL BABA JI AS “BHAI SAHIB JI – RESPECTED BROTHER”, BUT KNOW WE KNOW HE IS DHAN DHAN SATGURU BABA JI.
1999 Sangats:
After we met Dhan Dhan Baba Ji there were Sangat too. So we said to Mandeep ji to go to Baba Ji’s Sangat. And Dhan Dhan Master ji gave ride to Mandeep ji wherever Sangat was and taught Mandeep ji about Brahmgyanis values.
Mandeep ji went for Sangat during weekdays once or twice a week. She told me about Sangat and Dhan Dhan Baba Ji always sent blessings for Dass. During this time Dass told Mom never stop Mandeep ji from Sangat and mom said she was happy that at least Mandeep ji was busy and going for good cause. Mom said that going for for Naam simran, how can she think anything is wrong?
Dass said, “you are great mom.”
Mom said, “kids need mother healthy, so she want to see both of us happy.”
That was our mom’s love towards us. Sometimes Dass’s mom went for sangat but sometimes can’t go because of kids care.
Dhan Dhan Baba Ji came home first time:
One day Mandeep ji said, “we want to bring Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji home to make this Kuttia(hut/house) pavitaar(blessed).” Dass said, “no problem.”
Dass went to work and Mandeep ji and our mom took care after us. Dhan Dhan Baba Ji came to our house in Brampton with Dhan Dhan Master ji (Dhan Dhan Master ji was Satguru Baba Ji’s devotee had 9 jyots (blessed family members) in his house) and blessed that house. When we came home we asked Mandeep ji how was the day and Mandeep ji told us, “all is Dhan Dhan.”
1999 Amrit from Punj Pyare (Initiation as per Sikh Tradition) and that time:
Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji was sick and we asked Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji we are thinking to take Khanday Batay Da Amrit (sikh initiation ceremony). Then Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji said, “Sohna hai(good).”
So we took Khanday Batay da Amrit in Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib in Brampton. When we did that ceremony we got the 5 Ks (Punj Kakar_ to wear and we were doing Panj Bani Da Paath (reading 5 morning prayers). Our routine was like this. We want to mention how we felt.
After getting intitated we wore a big Kirpan (ceremonial dagger), but we were working so couldn’t wear it at work. So we only wore it at the Gurdwara. On the days when Dass was going to the Gurdwara, our routine was to come home after work, have a shower and wear our big kirpan over our Kurta-Pyjama. With our beard opened up and turban on our head. We felt pride sometimes because everyone was saying, “you are doing this at such a young age,” and that was pumping up our pride.
When we went to work we just put a small kirpan symbol in our chain, but even that was not allowed due health and safety rules. Then Dass had to put it in my pocket. We always used to think, “what kind of foolishness s this? Before Amrit ceremony no pride, but now we are in pride?” So that was the teaching to us and Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji gave us the wisdom, “don’t stay inside the box, just stay out of the box.” Means stay free. Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji never stopped us going to the initiation ceremony nor did he ever say take off these 5Ks. He said, “what is the wisdom behind these 5Ks? Become that thing and do it.”
This is our personal experience. Most of the time in life outside uniforms become POMP AND SHOW.
Routine Sewa / job / family:
Mandeep ji and Dass started Sewa at Dixie Gurdwara. Our routine was like this:
Dass was working at the Wallcovering company. It was a light job due to our knee ops. Mandeep ji was off from work at that time because of her health. Both of us would wake up early in the morning around 3:30 am and take a shower and get ready for going to the Gurdwara. Mandeep ji sat in the car and Dass drove. On the way Mandeep ji would recite the 5 morning prayers (punj bani) because she had memorized everything. We would drive slowly and keep listening to the Paath from Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji. Then arriving at the Gurdwara carpark we would finish the Paath then go to do Joriya di sewa (shoe wiping seva). Then we would go upstairs and bow to Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib and come downstairs and start doing Sewa in the kitchen. After doing the Sewa with Satnaam ji’s kirpa, then Dass dropped Mandeep ji at home and went to work for 8 hours. Then come back home, take kids and Mom with us and go to Dixie Gurdwara and do sewa there in Langar and and kitchen and come back home 12:30 am. Then sleep and start again the next day.
Dass sometimes left Mandeep ji in the Gurdwara for Sewa in the mornings and she got a ride with someone else to come home. Mandeep ji was getting better and Dass was thinking this is a miracle. A person who can’t even lift one tray (thali) at home is now lifting 10 or more at the Gurdwara.
Dass thought all is Dhan Dhan Bhai Sahib ji di kirpa (grace of Baba ji) as he put us towards doing Niskaam sewa (selfless service). Dass had a knee problem, but even so, one veer ji used to come there early in the morning to put out the floor mats on Wednesday mornings. Dass tried to help him with Baba ji’s kirpa. Even having had three knee surgeries, we never said no if someone ask for help, doesn’t matter what.
Then Mandeep ji start doing Smadhi Asan (going into Samadhi, then Satnaam divine energy expresses itself through arms reaching up and out and other postures). Dhan Dhan Baba ji explained these are Smadhi Asans.. One day we told Dhan Dhan Baba Ji about our routine, then Dhan Dhan Baba Ji said, “you need sleep too because you are working.” So then we would come home a little earlier than 12:30 am.
We would go to have Darshan (sacred vision) of Dhan Dhan Baba Ji every morning in Dixie Gurdwara. We would arrive before Baba ji and keep doing Joriya di sewa (shoe seva) until Baba Ji came. Then as soon as Dhan Dhan Baba Ji took off his shoes and went upstairs, then Dass cleaned Dhan Dhan Baba Ji’s shoes with our beard and Mandeep ji cleaned shoes with her long plait.
1999 Jyot (Divine Light Manifested) in Mandeep ji:
When Dhan Dhan Baba Ji gave Jyot to Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji then her Smadhi Asans started happening very quickly after she sat down for simran, they happened even whilst she was sleeping (even her sleep was in Smadhi). This was a very new experience for Dass, but Dass was happy with the recovery of Mandeep ji’s health.
Dass and Mandeep ji did not have any knowledge about this or Sant Marg. Now Dass’s interest about this thing was getting more and more and Dass was feeling inside lucky because we have God’s grace with us. Mandeep ji’s sewa was great. First at Dixie Gurdwara, then she started doing Sewa in Baba ji’s Sangat
and then at Nanaksar Gurdwara in Brampton which was close to where we lived. She did Joriya di sewa for as much time as she could. Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji had Asan Avstha (state of Asans) all the time.
Went to meet Mandeep ji’s parents After Kirpa in USA:
Before going to the USA to meet her family, Mandeep ji was worried about what her parents and brothers would say. Dass said, “let’s go and we will see how it goes. Let it be.”
Dass, Mandeep ji, kids and mom went to the USA to see Mandeep’s parents. Dass’s mom was sitting in the back seat with the kids and Mandeep ji was sitting on the passenger seat. From Toronto to Michigan all the way Mandeep ji had her arms going into various Asans and closed eyes. Mandeep ji kept telling us what she was seeing inside. And Dass was doing Satnaam simran inside. And mom sitting on the back seat was saying, “Dhan Dhan Dhan Satnaam Waheguru.”
Almost 4 hours went by when we reached there. Everyone welcomed us and we sat inside wen Mandeep ji’s elder brother came over as he also live d nearby in Michigan. We were sitting and talking just normal and Mandeep ji’s blessings Asans started. Everyone started looking at each other faces. They were wondering what is this? Dass sat on the floor and everyone came on the floor. Then Dass tried to explain everything and the divine meaning of the Asans. Dass said to everyone, “lets do Satnaam Satnaam,” so everyone did. After that when Mandeep ji opened her eyes, they were all asking and Mandeep ji told them about Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and sangat and everything. They got excited and ready to see Baba Ji as soon as possible.
Mandeep ji’s mother came back with us to Toronto area. Next morning we went to Dixie Gurdwara, we sat in the Langar hall with Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and Mandeep ji’s mother doing Waheguru Waheguru with her in and out breaths. She had been doing it this way for many, many years because Mandeep ji’s mom and dad are from Akhand Kirtani Jatha. So when Mandeep ji’s mother sat close to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and that “Waheguru Waheguru” started (and she used to physically jerk with each breath and chanting). Then Dhan Dhan Baba Ji asked, “what is this?” Because she was reciting it mechanically it was having no effect, just became a physical and mental habit. So Dhan Dhan Baba Ji did kirpa and gave blessings of Satnaam (Gurparsaadi Naam) to her. Then that Waheguru Mantar become stable after that kirpa (body stopped jerking, stopped doing it with breath and it went inside her hirdha).
After that Mandeep ji’s whole family came. Even Dass’s biological sister, the one who was married to Mandeep ji’s brother. Everyone took GurParsaadi Naam - Satnaam, from Baba Ji.
Mandeep ji’s elder brother was married to the daughter of one of the leaders of Akhand Kirtani Jatha. Even he was blessed with GurParsaad of Naam from Baba ji. Then later on even his AKJ inlaws came to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and took Satnaam from Baba Ji.
By now Mandeep ji was well, very well and returned to work.
1999 First time we visited Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s Mehal(palace):
When we went to Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s house, Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and Dhan Dhan Waday Mata ji welcome us. We did dandout to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji and Mata ji and sat there, We had dinner together and when we were leaving, Dhan Dhan Baba Ji gave Dass $101 and a turban and to Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji a suit. Dass still has that $101 that was gift to Dass from Satguru Baba Ji . Dass has never seen any Mahapurakh in this life who gives this kind of respect to his devotees. That made me more deep in Naam and have more love for Baba Ji.
2000 Dass’s First Experience in Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s sangat:
One day Dass went to Dhan Dhan T bhenji’s house in Mississauga. There was Baba Ji’s Sangat happening there. Only a few people were there. Dhan Dhan Master ji’s family had 9 Jyots (enlightened souls) in his family. When Dass saw little kids sitting there closing there eyes, Dass felt so great. Dass did Joriya Di Sewa (show seva) and sat close to Dhan Dhan Baba ji and Dass felt peace inside. Then our eyes closes by themselves. Then in meditation Dass fell on the ground (dandauth) in the meditation. The Amrit was amazing. Dass was lying for a long time. Then Dass heard one sound like Dass’s skull had broken from inside. That was Dass’s first experience.
Then Dhan Dhan Baba Ji said take Agya (humbly ask SatNaam for permission to get up) and we recite these words inside.
DHAN DHAN PARBRAHAM PARMESHAR JI, DHAN DHAN SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI. DHAN DHAN DUS PATSHAIA JIO. DHAN DHAN SABAY BHAGATS JIO. DHAN DHAN DHAN SANGAT JIO. DHAN DHAN PIND PARVAAR JIO. DHAN DHAN BHAI SAHIB JI. KIRPA KARO JI. THANKS FOR YOUR BLESSINGS JI.
Then Dass opened our eyes and told Dhan Dhan Baba Ji about that experience but Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji knows everything “BIN BOLAY SABH KICH JANDA MERA SATGURU PIYARA – without speaking my Satguru knows everything.”
Dhan Dhan Baba Ji explained Bharam di Diwaar Tutt Gayee (the gates of falseness have been smashed i.e. inner doors have opened). Dass did Dandout to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji like others, and whole sangat was sitting there, afterwards there was Langar then we left for home.
From that day our Asans also started. Dass and Mandeep ji started Smadhi Asans together for hours. Our life was just for SatNaam, nothing else. Our Asans started just the same as those of Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji in the beginning. Baba ji mentioned to us before, “Mandeep ji is the first Jyot of Sat Parbraham ji in this house, so always bow to her and who showed this path to us (both sisters came to see our house) always thanks to them before meditation.”
One day we were sitting togetter for SatNaam simran and we closed our eyes and started simran. Then the Asans started and Satnaam ji put us on Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji’s feet and then our nose started rubbing and forehead started rubbing on Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji’s feet. That time kirpa was showing us what Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji told us.
On this path no relation (Moh - Attachment):
.
Dass lost my job but Mandeep ji was doing job. So Dass stepped into the Sangat and started going with Baba Ji everywhere we had sangat. We put all of our free time towards Naam. On the weekend Mandeep ji, mom and kids went to sangat with us. Dass and Mandeep ji always waited for Dhan Dhan Baba Ji outside no matter how cold it was outside. As soon as we saw Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji, just with kirpa we did dandout to Baba Ji on the road. It didn’t matter to us about ice or dirt. DHAN DHAN BABA JI GAVE US GYAN “KAR DANDOUT PUNN WADA HAI – do Danduath It is a virtuous deed.” All the time Kirpa was pulling us up, up, up towards Satnaam ji.
Now we had sangat from Canada and USA. Everyone was coming to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji for Naam. In Canada, we had sangat everyday at different devotee’s houses and then we started to go to the USA. Here Dass wants to mention about Sewa from Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji’s family. They did great, great Sewa to each and everyone in the Sangat, we can’t say in words.
Both of Dass’s biological sisters, 2 aunts, 2 uncles and their kids and son-in-law and daughter-in-law came to Baba Ji for Naam. When they heard about us then they all wanted what we got.from Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji . Many took Naam, but many also left. Some just came to the Sangat to judge Dhan Dhan Baba Ji. It was not new, it happened with each and every Bhagat. But, Dhan Dhan Baba Ji never stopped anyone or judged anyone. Baba Ji never asked anyone’s name, caste or from which classification of religion.
Whoever came to Baba Ji and asked for the GurParsaadi Naam was given it with devotion and love. Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji always said, “UPPAR TEY DEWAY NICHAY TEY MANGAY APPAY APP – The Giver is above, the wanter is below – All is Him Himself”
DASS WANTS TO MENTION HERE THAT –
.
SEWA THORI MAGAN BHAUTA.
Seva is little, wants are many.
The average person who is living on this earth, they live in desires and they just want things (material like money, son etc....). So when they meet a Sant they don’t ask Naam , they ask for their wants to be fulfilled. And even if they ask for naam, it is because they want it to fulfill their wants. But, this path of the Sant Purakhs (Saint Beings) is the path where we have to surrender everything.(LIVE WITHOUT DESIRES). Only total surrender (Jiwat Marna) works.
JIWAT MARAY SADA CHIR JIWAY
(Ego) Die whilst alive, then you live forever.
Baba Ji’s Avastha (state) before Hukam (second marriage):
We did sangat with Baba Ji for almost every day for 1 year. What we were getting from Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji was amazing and it is still amazing and will remain amazing forever. Baba Ji’s teachings when we started sangat were:
MAA BHEN DHEE EK BAKHANAY
(Men to) See all (women other than wife) as mother, sister or daughter. [And similiar for women, to see all men other than husband as father, brother, son. Not to see others as objects for sexual desire].
HAR KAY CHARN SABNA KAY CHARN
All feet are God’s feet.
WASH EVERYONE’S FEET WITH SURAT (In your mind keep washing other’s feet i.e. stay humble).
When Dass was going to sangat at this time, Baba Ji always said to put these teachings into our daily practise. Dhan Dhan Baba Ji said wash each and everyone’s feet with our surat (in our mind stay as the lowest).
Once Dass was driving the car and doing that practice in our mind. We took our biological son swimming and whichever lady was teaching him, we saw as our sister and just washed her feet in our mind and kept our eyes just on her feet. In the swimming pool area we kept saying in our mind, “Dhan Dhan sister, you are teaching kids.” And sitting there all the time Amrit was filling us.
When Asans (arms outstretched in Smadhi) started and Amrit Barkha (inner shower of Amrit) then we had the inner realisation (gyan) of what Amrit really is:
DHAN DHAN GURU NANAK DEV JI SAID:
NANAK AMRIT MANAY MAHAY
AMRIT IS WITHIN MY MIND.
(i.e. God is the essence of the mind. Mind dissolves then god overflows as Amrit).
Dass learnt from the sangat many, many good qualities, such as to never point the finger at someone else because “Sabh gobind hai( All is God).”
Dhan Dhan Baba Ji always said, “DOSH NA DIJAY AVAR JANA JO MEIN KIYA SO MEIN PAYIA.” Meaning don’t blame anyone else, for I am receiving what I have done.
Dass always heard Dhan Dhan Baba Ji’s teachings, but never truly realized their depth until the Hukam came. That first year of doing sangat with Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji, Dass always sat with Baba Ji doing Naam and the whole Sangat gave us so much respect and love we can’t say it in words. Everyone was Dhan Dhan from the kids to the old people in Sangat. Many, many people came because Satguru Baba Ji sangat was growing. We got strength from the Sangat’s elders. Even some of them could not walk but they were so full of faith, they took one step at a time and did dandout to Dhan Dhan Baba Ji where Baba Ji was sittting on the Asan.
Dass had never sung anything nor played the Tabla, but with Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s kirpa Dass sat with the Dhan Dhan Sangat and sung and just took the big side of the tabla and just did kirtan with the sangat like that. Satguru Baba Ji kirpa is great, great kirpa. Even just doing simple beating of the tabla we went to smadhi Asans.
2000 Ate own vista(faeces) and drank own urine with blessings:
Dass wants to share this thing here because when we were doing Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s Sangat and Dhan Dhan Baba Ji always gave us True wisdom (Sat Gyan). One day Dass was sitting in the Sangat and Dhan Dhan Baba Ji gave gyan about VISTA KA JANT (worm in human shit). Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji said we have to think how great is Satnaam ji, that it is He himself in asa worm in our faces (Vista kay Jant) too. How great Satnaam is!
When Dass came home then we were thinking about that and an inner Hukam came. So we ate our own Vista with Gur and Guru’s grace and drank our urine too and that Vista and Pishab taste was sweet. We are eating and drinking and doing Satnaam and saying, “SATNAAM SABH TERA SADKA – O god all I your play.” Then we tried again because Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba ji always said become the lowest of the lowest and Jiwat Marna (ego die whilst alive). Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji always said that we have to get gyan and bring it into our actions because DARGHAY TERI KARNI DEKHI JANI HAI – God’s court is watching your deeds.
Mein Hu Nahi, Mein kuch Nahi.
I will be nothing. I am nothing.
Dass always sat in the Sangat and listened to Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji carefully and Dass just kept collecting jewels of divine wisdom from Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji.
Virag (pain of separation) and two drops from eyes:
One day Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji was sitting on the chair after sangat. Dass and Mandeep ji, we were sitting on the floor close to Baba Ji and Baba Ji was in Virag and two drops came out from eyes and Dass took that tear from left eye as Amrit and right eye Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji took a tear as a Amrit. Baba Ji told us he brought this Amrit from Sachkhand and that Amrit was so sweet. Thanks. Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji gave us that Amrit. After that many, many tears came. After a few moments Dass was cleaning Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s eyes and licking that Amrit. Dass continued for long long time.
Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji’s mother had kirpa from Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji:
Dhan Dhan Mandeep ji’s mother had a vision with kirpa. She can sit anywhere and see Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji with close eyes and all the Pathsahias (sikh Gurus) and bhagats. Whenever she saw something she told Dass and Dass was more and more happy with Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and his blessings upon us.
Dhan Dhan Dassan Dass ji’s biological sister-in-law had kirpa:
In Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s blessings she got kirpa and she got her Dasam Duar opened and she could see everything that happened in past and what will happen in future. She saw Baba Ji’s and Shotay Mata ji’s (marriage) hukam before Hukam and she was quiet.
2000 Came from Virginia:
Sangat from USA and Canada went to Virginia and then came to Toronto. We had sangat more than 150 people. Everyone got together in Brampton and we had sangat in many houses. Dhan Dhan Sukha Baba Ji had vision (thanks to Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s blessings he can see what is happening everywhere here and there(SachKhand) ).
Now in the Sangat we had two people who can see everything in spiritual realms that Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji would say. They could see what was happening in Darghay. It was amazing for Dass and Dass felt so lucky and thought, “BHAG HAMARAY CHANGAY POORA SATGUR PAYAIAA – I am so fortunate that I found the SatGuru.”
Dass never had any desire for any Dasam Duar to open or anything. We would just watch Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji with open eyes and see an Aura on Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s head and around where Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji sat.
JITHAY JAYEE BAHAYA MERA SATGURU SO THAAN SUHAVA RAM RAJE,
Wherever my Satguru goes and sits, that place becomes pure, O God my King.
Dass’s faith was getting greater in Satguru Baba Ji day by day.
2000-2003 Distributed flyers, Cassettes and Videos:
Whenever Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji gave any Gyan to the Sangat, someone recorded it on to tape cassettes and someone else recorded it on video. Someone wrote it up. Those recordings were given to everyone in the sangat and even delivered to all the Gurdwaras in Toronto. No editing or correction was done. “JESSA PAYAIA TESSA VARTAYIA – As He gave it, we delivered it.” Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji always gave straight gyan - no twisting or deleting anything that someone would like or wouldn’t like. That was not his issue if people liked what he said or not. Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s issue was tell the Truth exactly ow Dhan Dhan Sat Parbrahm ji wanted from him. So he did and is still doing so till today and will carry on doing so forever.
If Satguru Baba Ji wanted to make money that was not a problem:
Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji, if he wanted to make money that was easy for him. Just put Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji in one room and sit in an another room to give private consultations and start a Dera (community) like others have. But Baba ji sat in same room as Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji and gave the Gyan to everyone in public. Sometimes there was so much rush in the Sangat that when they they came to the house they just sat wherever they got a place (hallway, stairs, in the garage etc) and started hearing Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji’s gyan. Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji never downplayed the sangat or Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji or any Bhagat, but later on people started twisting what Baba ji had said as being anti-Sikh Gurus, they then slandered Dhan Dhan Satguru Baba Ji and attacked the sangat in Jun 2003.
