Religion is an illusion
To help you get out of bad habits, some may look at history and the past or you follow a religion and here is where religion is an illusion, you're only reading a book and calling it God.
It is only a book.
If God was a book, you would feel an electric force just by touching it and then it would change you. But that is not what happens. It will change you by addiction of thought pattern change, only if you love it and believe in it.
"Shabad Guru Surat Dhun Chela
The Word is the Guru, the consciousness is the disciple to the sound." - Guru Nanak Dev ji
If you love and believe in it, education will be easy for you. But why is it that the Dharam and the book of Dharam is difficult? This is because it is tough to love Truth, there is fear of loving Truth and what does this fear coming from? That moment in childhood when haumai (ego) first took birth in you.
If He takes you one thousand kilometres to do your deeds, (then accept it, dont complain) and earn your bhaag (destiny you sowed) and your karam (deeds), God is already working in you to know Himself. You will know the child that is God within the self, caught in the trap of Maya, you have to win the mind.
"Steal and run", this is the instinct and this is what you have to get rid of. And to get rid of it, you say "Main hoon nahin, Main kuch nahin - I will be nothing , I am nothing." In maya you choose the best thing for you. To become a Gurmukh you choose the worst thing that is put in front of you and you give the good thing to the other. So you reverse the law of haumai (ego) and as soon as you reverse the law of haumai, Gurmukh takes place. If a thief is stealing, the moment he stops stealing, he's a Gurmukh.
In Sherwood Forest in England, there is the story of Robin Hood who stole from the rich to give to the poor, he was (balancing the bad deed of stealing with the good deed of giving). However, the moment he stopped stealing and lying, Gurmukh took birth. The moment you stop negativity, you are a Gurmukh. But you get told you have not taken "Amrit" (Sikh initiation), which is just another illusion. The Gurdwaras have changed the definitions, lying in their katha, it's to keep the illusion of not keeping Truth alive in the sangat. They are cursing the sangat, they are lying by saying, "if you don't take amrit you won't get mukti (salvation). It's a lie."
People feel guilty because they are being fed guilt (from the so-called religious ones around them). And guilt ignites fear and bharam (illusions), this is to control the sangat and sell to you ritualistic sermons. They are influenced by maya. Those who dominate or put fear in others in the name of religion can not be a parupkari (altruistic) sant. He is a thug wearing the chola (robes) of a sant and doing the deed of a thug. He who puts fear in others is anti-religion and is ignorant of Truth. He who knows Truth helps others to get rid of the illusion of fear, he is a parupkari sant. Embodiment of Truth is the embodiment of love.
Omnipresent (everywhere at once), omniscient (knows everything at once), omnipotent (all powerful at once) and you must become that as well because that is a Gurmukh. But becoming that still only call yourself Sat Ram Dass (servant of Truth).
In the book 'Conversations with God' it tells you to ask, what love would do when you are put in a situation, not what you would do. Love is God, Love is Guru. Remember this body is to become the temple.
