Past Gurus are not going to do anything for you

Have been ancestors and past Gurus are not going to do anything for you.  If the older generation and the old family can give something to us, all that they give us is a memory.   And the memory becomes an obsession to fuel “me and mine”.   So you must eradicate that.   You must live your own life. 

What can your ancestors and past Gurus give you here and now?  They have given you a memory of their name.  But what good is that? Can they give you anything else if you pray to them?  That is also an illusion and is prohibited.   So don’t do that.  If you are asking for peace (sukh) from Nanak in your prayers, you are still in illusion.  You will only receive what you have had written for you due to your past deeds.  It is not going to change by praying for another outcome to past Gurus. 

So that type of praying is all a waste of time.  All it will do is keep the memory of Nanak alive in you, but it will also keep the ego and the past alive in you.  And that is the enemy of the moment, of today, of now, of your life right here and  now.   So you must forget all that.  And why should you forget?  Because, the Gurus themselves told you; “do not worship us” but people ignore that.

That’s due to the addiction to past stories and memories caused by the ego mind.  That’s why people don’t let it go.  Their ego is too scared to let it go.  Devotion (bhagti) is to be on your own, to be self confident.  Self-confidence will give you a high spirit (Chardi-kala).

If you don’t have self-confidence how can you have Chardi-kala?  And this confidence will come from union with God.  Or union with a SatGuru.  SatGuru will give you the blessing of the divine word (Gur Parsaadi Shabad Guru). 

Along with blessed divine word (Shabad Guru = Sat Naam) he will give you his spiritual labouring (kamaaee)i and place it into your heart and then he will teach you from within yourself.  Shabad Guru and his personal experience, “tis chukia, tis jaania – the one who has tasted it, knows it)” will help you in your daily pursuit.  

So what will you have? Whomever you sit with, whatever they have, you will also have.  If you are uneducated and sit with educated people, they will give you knowledge and your knowledge will increase.   If you sit with Gurmukhs (enlightened souls), your selfless service will increase.  And whatever Amrit he has will come to you. 

But what is going to play?  The game of devotee (Bhagat) and SatGuru. The Shabad Guru or Naam Guru is the shelter your SatGuru gives you.  And what are you going to become when you have all these three – devotee, SatGuru and Shabad Guru?  You’re going to become a Guru yourself one day.  If you don’t, your not liberated soul (Jivan Mukt).  Only the Guru is Jivain Mukt.   So whichever living Sat Guru you are following just follow his commands and you will become a Guru. 

If you’re working alongside a machinist and you’re working with love and honesty, really working hard and are focused, you can become a machinist too.  And there are a lot of machinists on this Earth who never went to college to become a machinist, but they learned by experience.  “Monkey say, monkey do.”  And we came from monkeys!
