Monkey Habits
We came from monkeys. Unfortunately, the same monkey habits prevail in the human mind. The same dominancy prevails. The egotistical mind came from animals, it is animal thinking. It comes from the primal part of our brain called the reptilian brain - science has identified that. It is the reptilian brain that gives you “fight and flight.” But you experience fight and flight in your belly, your kidneys and your liver. If you look at a thief, how he runs, his fear is in his guts. “Oh something is happening to my stomach”.
The one’s who lie at home, the fights between mothers, daughters, mother-in-laws and so on are based on these lies. Whilst lying they feel burning and say, “oh my chest is burning.” They are burning because they are lying.
There is no love. The heart only believes in love. And if you do anything against love and goodness, it will burn. In reality it does. Try it some day, your mind is going to be on fire!
When you’re angry, you say “I’m not going to eat now,” because your anger has burned you. Its burnt your appetite. It has burnt your heart also. It has eaten you alive.
Whatever vessel posion is contained in, the poison eats the vessel first. What ever person plants the seeds of hatred towards another or wishing bad towards others; that wish will happen to him. If you’re wanting revenge and planting that seed in your mind, your mind is filling with ego.
“Oh fish, you never saw the net comming” – you haven’t understand Gurbani yet when it comes to “me” and “you”.
So this is all due to ego.
We have to fight with all these five thieves. What are the opposites of them? Cultivate the opposities as your attributes and you will realise God – the one who is All-Pervading and Omnipresent.
The only difference between a selfish person (MunnMukh) and an enlightened person (Gurmukh) is that the Gurmukh forsakes his own wisdom and takes the Guru’s wisdom. Transform your thinking by listening to Gurbani or by listening to a spiritually wise person. Wisdom will only come if you sit with a wise person.
So what is Sri Guru Granth Sahib? Divine Wisdom. So in the Gurbani the verses are really just comprised of questions and answers. The question is the selfish wisdom (manmat) part, the answer is the Guru’s wisdom (Gurmat).
The question is about the world of Maya, the answer is in the line with “nanak”, the answer is from the Naam.
So the hell part is also there in Gurbani. The question part is from the destructive side of the mind, the reptillian brain part. The verse raises the question posed by the “Me” part which is Maya and is the darker side. The “me” part in asking the question is the begger seeking an answer and asking Nanak to tell me about God (Akal Purakh).
Nanak is the answer side. That is Gurmukh. So MunnMukh and GurMukh is the game that is embedded in GurBani. You must now kill the self, go from selfishness and become “You-You selfless servant enl;ightened soul” (tuhi tuhi parupkari gurmukh.” Gurmukh is broad- mindedness. Selfishness is narrow- mindedness is MunnMukh. Simple as that.
In religion, people who become initiated think they are now GurMukh and look down upon others who are initiated like them and regard them as MunnMukhs. However, when you realise that MunnMukh = narrow-mindedness and Gurmukh = broad-mindedness, see how the religious pride around these words just got broken. Religion just became a normal thing, its not a big thing, not a big issue. But don’t be proud that you’re following a religion.
Is a very normal thing to follow a religion if you follow the divine wisdom. However, in a narrow minded person the fear of religion is very big. Why is it? Because ego is an illusion. Illusion creates fear. But, Naam is Truth and they are scared to do truth. That’s the fear, otherwise if we are in love with God, all these fears decimate and disappear.
The day you have no fear of God because there is only love for God, you have become his attributes, his Sat Ram Dass – His servant. But whilst you have fear in you, that means there is ego in you. That’s the clue to knowing how much ego you have, just see how much fear you have left.
The day your fears and everything dissolve and you can say to God, you are Sat and on top of that you can curse him in jest, that’s means “aapai swami, aapai antarjami”, you know the both ends are all Him. You know that hell and heaven both have God (Sach Khand) behind them. Then you know the game of consciousness. You already have the attributes of God when you were a baby. That’s why the baby is called God-like and those attributes are the three divided parts of the mind - the three bodies of the self.
God’s biggest definition of the word God and His name is Truth, so the mind of a baby is the closest to Truth itself.
But the lesser two parts of the mind are maya. You must reach the top consciousness. A normal person is sometimes more of Gurmukh then the religious people who are calling themselves Gurmukhs just because of their religious uniform and rituals. There are a lot of normal people who have the attributes of God and who are searching for love as in your case when you were a child, you were a Gurmukh then. But, when you went into the religion you became a Munnmukh (narrow-minded). You were a Gurmukh already because child is God-like, child is Gurmukh (broad-minded).
So what is religion? Religion is a headache!
(Baba ji laughs).
