Break the addiction of the mind

Baba Ji : So what do you do in your spiritual labouring (bhagati)?  You start disconnecting from inside.  You have to break the addiction of the mind.  What is mind? A addiction of desires and attachments; nothing else.

H : I always try and remember that we were born without any attachments and when we die they are all going to break, whether we like it or not.  If you break them beforehand we say that’s spiritual labouring.

Baba Ji : My son is not attached to us.  He told his mother (Badi Mata Ji) that and said to her, "you must break the attachment to me too."   She replied, "I am not attached to you either."  He then asked her, “what if I get an inner command (Hukam) to go to Iran and help others?”  She said, "Just go and don’t even come home.  Go and live your life freely. Whatever God wants you to do; do it."

H : There was this article in the newspaper about an 18 year old girl who took a year out of studies, a gap year before going back to University.  She went to South America but was murdered.  If it was an Indian family they probably wouldn’t have let her go because of something like that happening.  However, her parents wrote, “It was good that she went and we will tell every other parent to let their kids go.  Don’t let this put you off."

Baba Ji : There once was a Sant and he went to get his son married.  He knew after the marriage that his son would die.  And the son did die after his marriage.  Everybody said to the Sant, “You’re a sant and you knew this was going to happen so why did you allow this marriage?”   The Sant replied, “Why should I interfere with God's command?”   If something is going to happen then it will happen.  You shouldn’t stop it.

H : When I was young, I didn’t know much and I met this young saint.  I was about 18.  At that time he wasn’t called a Sant.  He used to wear a blue warrior outfit (bana) and walk around Birmingham standing out like that.  When I met him I had some deep attraction to him.  I met him at the bus stop.  I greeted him and he could speak English.  He answered all of my questions in english about the religion and I spent all day with him.  He used to walk everywhere and had so much faith in Guru that he used to cross the road without looking around and I said to him, “Don’t you look around while crossing?” He said,  "No, God is taking care of me.  He will take care of the lights."  He went to that extreme.

Baba Ji : It goes to that extreme, Nanak went to that extreme, some Sants even go and jump in the river.

H :  Sant Attar singh jumped into the river and the river threw him out.  God said to him “you have to do things in the world yet.  Your time hasn’t come yet”.

Baba Ji : I went to God's court (Dargah) after my car accident and the divine beings sent me back.  They asked my soul, “What are you doing here?  You have lots of work to do yet.  Go back."   Then I woke up in the hospital after 3 days in a coma.  I had the best three days and I told the congregation about this.  I say to the devotees that when these things happen you will never be the same as before because your ego is shattered then.
