Conversation With Baba Ji – 27 Feb 10
EARN THE DIVINE WISDOM
Harjit: “Satnaam ji ka khalsa, Satnaam ji kee fateh. Dandauth Bandhna Baba Ji.”
Baba Ji: “Satnaam ji ka khalsa, satnaam ji kee fateh. Dandauth Bandhna. We were waiting for you to call.”
Harjit: Sorry Baba ji that we did not call for 6 months. Its not that we dont love you, its just that we fell back into maya into bad habits. But rather than calling you and you blessing us then us just going back into maya again after a couple of days because deep down we dont want to give up maya, then us calling you and you blessings us and us going back into maya yet again, we really felt we already know what you have asked us to do. So we just really need to EARN what you have said before we call you this time. And with your blessings, Dassan Dass Ji’s blessings and Tanraj Ji’s blessings and the Sat Sangat Ji’s blessings it has taken 6 months to clear a lot of our maya thinking and actions.
Baba Ji: That is the right thing to do - to earn the divine wisdom.
Baba Ji: When we say “Sat Naam” everything is ours (“Prabh keh simran se dhanvantay –in doing God’s Simran one because the wealthiest” – Sukhmani.) And to such a believer everything becomes beautiful. He will even tell you that a thorn (DUKH) is more beautiful than a flower (SUKH). How do we become like that? By getting rid of our bad habits, by surrendering to the divine wisdom. What does that mean practically? Close your eyes for meditation and start doing your Sat Naam simran. Then when bad thoughts come, just admit it, confess it (e.g. a bad thought of revenge towards someone else comes, then instead becoming irritated, just say “SatGuru ji I am full of anger and revenge, I accept my bad thoughts. Please forgive me.”) Why do we need to do this? Because these thoughts make the mind muddy. The mind is connected to your Jyot (soul/God). But in a muddy mind you cant see the Jyot. So make the muddy mind low (humble, innocent) and look what happens, the heart-lotus rises.
How do you make your muddy mind low? Gurbani says, “Man bechay satguru kay paas. Tis sevak kay karaj raas - The one who sells their mind to the SatGuru, that servant has all their tasks taken care of.” How do you sell your mind? Fill it with humbleness and humility. Then the colour of your soul (divine light /Jyot) will shine on your face. Inside make your Hirdha (heart chakra/temple of God) shine. Dont break anyones heart as God resides there. So when you look around, just see God in every heart. Actually, when your mind is no longer muddy, then God (Jyot) within you, looks out through your biological eyes and sees Himself all around. This only happens when your own mind collapses. Hows does that happen? By following Dharam (path to union with God) which is to break Maya. How do you break out of Maya? You have to step out of every mental box you are trapped in – the box of my culture, my country, my colour, my caste, my class, my religion, my family name and so on. It is all a trap, it is all an illusion, it is all hell, so step out of it. The one who loves from the heart is the one who has stepped out of these boxes and goes back to the Jyot and wins over the mind.
Whatever makes you truthful, keep going that way. Whatever takes you away from Truth, stop it. Ego and pride stop you going towards Truth. So surrender your ego and get rid of your pride by getting out of “my identity”. When you do that you go into contentment state of mind – which is the Vishnu part of the mind. But dont get stuck there, go beyond that to the inate state (Pure Nothingness that is called “Ik Oankaar”). How do you become content and go beyond? Within all of your relationships (work, family etc) have an attitude of service. But dont let the other party dominate you. Meaning dont put their wants ahead of what God wants. If you keep God in first place then your entire life is full of beauty. But, if you put God in last place, then ego is in the first place and that is a life of cheating, selfishness, lying and so on. So flush ego down the toilet then you bloom.
Harjit: With your blessings we uploaded an article by H Kaur in 2000, a very humble soul who as a child did not understand the Sikh prayers but still prayed to God to bless her one day. Then after marriage, she emigrated to Canada and was praying for worldy wants (she didnt know any better), but ended up in hospital and was diagnosed with a long term illness. She started hating her life in Canada, but took Sikh initiation, but even being devout still didnt progress much. Then she was blessed with your sangat Baba ji, she came only to watch you in Samadhi and then to watch your beautiful sangat in samadhi and asans (spontaneous meditation postures as God plays in the body). Then you blessed her too and said that Guru has taken her 90% of the way to Karam Khand, the rest she has to do by giving daswandh (tenth). She really took it to heart and sat for long hours without fail and everything came to her – the Jyot manifested. We loved her story, it was so simple, she came to you and just did what you asked. Over the last 20 years, I have found it the hardest thing in the world to trust the ones god has sent me, then to do what they say and to give daswandh and most of all to be consistent and to just do what the Guru has asked.
Baba Ji: That blessed soul, H Kaur, was innocent, uneducated and praying to God, but no one could ferry her across. Her parents couldn’t even educate her. The preachers couldn’t ferry her across even after initiating her as a Sikh. Her husband was an alcoholic and couldn’t do anything for her, nor could her children save her. So no one could ferry her across, no one could answer her prayer. But, she was a thirsty soul and God ferried her across by bringing her to us. She had no education and hence no pride of her education. She couldn’t read so wasnt trapped in reading ritual prayers. She had no doubts about the divine wisdom we gave her, as she was not trapped in the pride of logic and reason. She was innocent and kind and that kind of person is better than a person who is proud of their education and trapped in logic. And who are the first people that give you the worng kind of education? Your parents, if they have taught you as a child to lie and be dishonest. Your parents then dominate you to control you and supress living from your heart. Then they manipulate you further by using the lure of inheritance to keep you under their control. Then who educates wrongly after that? Your religion. Religion controls you through guilt and fear. They play on your guilt every chance they get in order to control you. Christians use the biggest guilt trip when they say “Jesus died for your sins.” They make you feel guilty in order for you to come under the control of their religion. Just become the lowest, say “no one is lower than me.” Just earn the Truth by making your Seva truthful, by making your dediction to the Guru truthful. The five thieves only check how truthful you are. The five thieves bow down to you when you are completely truthful in all you do and say.
If everyone lives their heart, then they live a life full of love. Living your heart does not mean living out desires. It means living with no desires, living for others and not for fulfillment of your own desires. Gurbani says, “Je tu hovay mera bhagat mangna chit na aavay – if your are truly my lover (bhagat) then dont let desires come into your mind.” So have no desires, otherwise your mind is still corrupt, still muddy. Become desire free and a servant of the Naam. How great is that? Well then even Nanak becomes a sacrifice to you. (“Hau kurbanay joa jo layn jo tera nao – I am a sacrifice to the ones who go for the Naam.”)
Get rid of the mind (selfish, logic, cheating etc) and your heart will bloom. Gurbani says it “E man tu jyot saroop ha, apanaa mool pehchaan. – O mind your essence is divine light (jyot/soul), recognise your source.” So how do you get rid of the selfish mind? By becoming a servant who is desire free, selfless – “Seva karat hoi nikaamee. Tis sevak hoth prapat swamee. – The one who serves until her becomes desire-free. That servant realises the Master.”
So dont make any execuses whatsoever not to do Seva. Do seva everday , every chance you get and dont stop doing it no matter what execuses your mind tries to make e.g. I am sick, I am poor, am tired and so on. Just remember as long as you have breath in your body keep doing seva. Then the temple of God is made within you and then you will realise the inner God. Then you smile all the time. The ones who have the inner God smile all the time, wereas the ones who are busy trying to please some outer God at the temples through rituals and ceremonies and so on, rarely smile. The one who has realised the inner God, play slike a child in the whole universe. The ones who try to please some outer God, are very serious and rarely are carefree like a child.
Become Gareeb (adopt the attitude of poverty, of being a beggar at God’s door). Practically what does this mean? If you are used to wearing clothes that you are proud of, that make you feel proud, then change them to normal clothes and get rid of the feeling of pride. Make lifestyle changes like this to any areas that make you feel proud (clothes, hairstyle, car, jewellery, shoes, house etc).
Only if you have devotion in your heart can you do Bhagti. The language of the heart is love so let that colour your face. Then your face will shine bright.
THE POWER OF OPEN CONFESSION
Harjit: In sangat last night, serveral people made heartfelt confessions after coming to sangat for many years, they finally opened up and let their demons out. Things that they had been carrying around for many years. Destructive thoughts that were making their mind into hell because of their weight.
Baba Ji: The more they open up the more the rock mind dissolves. That is bhagti. Without surrender and confession there is no redemption. The one that forgives others is also forgiven right away by God. Because the one who can forgive has realised that is a Dvine quality, a quality of God himself. Forgiveness is beautiful. Thisi show you clean up on the inside. So what is the point of doing external rituals and ceremonies in the name of religion, when inside a person is still filthy? Without surrendering, all external things done in the name of God are useless. But, by surrendering internally then allthe external things become meaningful. (Eg doing dandauth bandhna (lying flat) with the body is only meaningful if you truly surrender your mind when you bow).
SHINING FACES DUE TO DIVINE LIGHT
S stood for Truth by standing for her Bhag (destiny to marry someone she loved, but parents didn’t select), by standing for her Guru’s words to put love first and becoming disowned by family. The parents and family complained, but now after a year they have welcomed her and her husband. Why? Because they realised they cannot live without her. The glow on her face is what they want and are attracted to. This is the Divine glow (Noor / Mukh Ujalay). The divine glow is even on the belly of a pregnant woman. She cant see it, but she will say “my belly is hot!” This Light creates the Creation. This divine light is in the tail of each sperm. This Divine Light remains around the baby until the day ego comes in. This Divine Light even appears on a bride and groom at the time of marriage as their hearts are open to each other, but disappears as soon they get home and start counting presents and later as they start to try and dominate each other and close their hearts to love. That Divine Light is also on a Sant’s face every moment of every hour of every day. So you must also learn how to keep that Divine Light (Noor) on your face.
How? By having the attitude of the lowest. For example, even if your house is robbed, you will not get upset, you will say to the thief, “hey, you missed the safe - here’s the key.” (Sant Kabir ji’s house was on fire and as he returned the villagers handed him a bucket of water to help them put it out. Kabir ji walked up to a pile of his belongings that had been salvaged and started throwing them back into the fire, laughing all the while, “God take this as well!) How do you get the Divine Light on your face? Confess out loud, “I AM A SINNER.” Confess your sins, dissolve your rock mind and open your heart. You’ll be amazed by people’s reaction. The people that you thought would taunt you and hence the reason why you kept it locked inside, those very people will actually praise you and respect you for your courage to confess. (They may even open up themselves and release their pain too. Your whole relationship with people will change to a truthful relationship, rather than a superficial one that never addressed the underlying issues.)
Harjit: Even Tiger Woods ended up doing a public confession and apology for his lustful behaviour recently.
Baba Ji: But Tiger Woods’ confession is no good for Bhagti. It was just for show. It wasn’t from the heart. It was just to satisfy his family and friends and mistresses that he had gone out of their boundary of moral ethics. It was to preserve his ego (reputation) and pride was still there. It was a charade of an outer confession to keep his wife and family and friends and sponsors. He has not gone to the heart yet. Its only to preserve his outer image (true confession should destroy the false outer image we have created). That’s why they all lie, to preserve their outer image, to say sorry when they don’t really mean it from the heart. Even a past Pope executed Galileo for saying the world was round. The killed him to preserve the lie they had created that the world was flat. Everyone, expecially politicians, religious leaders and people like Tiger Woods are busy trying to show that “I am good.” Its all a lie, because in reality the one who is truly good in the eyes of God, is the one who confesses what they really are and says, “I am not good. I AM A SINNER.”
When you downplay others your mind vegetates. When you help others your mind is soothed. Everyone is persecuted by their own habits, not by others. So change your habits and you change your world. My happiness is in serving others. In serving others you are truly alive, others everyone is dead. Keep doing seva and when you become nothing I will bow to you. You’ll never be left behind. That’s a promise.
Harjit: I don’t know what to say Baba ji (I was overwhelmed by the depth of Baba ji’s love towards us. We are just full of Maya's rubbish and he said he would bow to us and not forget about us.)
Baba Ji: Just say Sat Naam. Harjit is Harjit to others, but Harjit is my heart.
Harjit: Baba ji and you are our heart, your lotus feet are in our heart.
Baba Ji: That’s all it is. The Divine Light in one heart connects to the Divine Light in another heart. (That is the Infinfite Divine Power that comes with the GurParsaad of Naam, Seva and Bandagi).
Harjit: Dandauth Bandhna Baba Ji we can never thankyou enough, we can never know what you truly are.
Baba Ji: ParBrahm Parmesar (Supreme Transendental God) seems far, so through the SatGuru Parmesar He comes close to us.
SatNaam Ji Ka Khalsa,
SatNaam Ji Kee Fateh!
